Advanced Collective Bargaining Program
The purpose of the Advanced Collective Bargaining Program is to utilize
the
computer to move the Union ahead in the collective bargaining process.
Through the
utilization of four user friendly in?house developed computer software
programs, the IAM representative takes a quantum leap forward in the
ability to service our members. The class introduces the representative
to the four components in the Machinists' Collective Bargaining Program.
Primary emphasis in the class is on learning how to use the collective
bargaining software. The majority of class time is spent in the computer
lab.
After completing this class the representative will:
Use the Internet for Bargaining Purposes
Understand and Use Computer Based Contract Costing Concepts
Understand the Research Necessary for Bargaining
Use Financial Ratios and Standard Industrial Codes for Company Analysis
Use the Machinists' Collective Bargaining Software Contract Costing
System
Use the C.P.I. Calculator, Bargaining Unit Profile, Form 5500 Analysis
Program and the Income and Balance Sheet Program
This class is designed to accommodate the computer novice to the computer
expert. Those who have previous computer experience will find the class
easier, but this should not discourage those with little or no computer
experience from attending the class. Throughout the week the participants
work in teams with an inexperienced computer user assigned to work with
some one more experienced. The class is designed to afford the maximum
of hands on computer use for all participants. Case studies are assigned;
the participants have the opportunity to learn the software through
the practice of concepts that will be used in actual negotiations in
the field. The class relies heavily on close coordination with the Strategic
Resources Department for the data that is necessary for the proper utilization
of the software. At the conclusion of the class each representative
is given a copy of the software for use in the field.
