Return to course schedules and details Special Topics in Collective BargainingThis program focuses both on the process and substance of collective bargaining. From a process perspective, the Special Topics program concentrates on developing and refining two critical negotiation skills; drafting contract language and preparing and presenting arguments in support of proposals. The process skills will be taught using intensive, hands-on workshops. From a substantive perspective, the Special Topics program explores two critical bargaining issues; job security and healthcare. Various approaches in both job security and healthcare (cost and quality) will be presented and explored. Both substantive areas will be examined using current data and actual contract language in a small seminar format. The program concludes with an integrated bargaining simulation that will require the participants to develop and present a set of proposals around the issues of job security and healthcare to an experienced negotiator. |
